J. Wiley George

I grew up in Durant, Oklahoma, a small town 90 miles north of Dallas.  After graduating from Baylor University with a BBA (Finance/Economics) and Baylor Law School, I joined Strasburger & Price in Dallas, which at the time was one of the finest trial firms in the Southwest.  In 1993, after seven years in Dallas, I opened Strasburger’s Houston office with another partner.  I left Strasburger in 2003 to join Andrews Kurth where I practiced for 15-plus years.  At both firms, I was active in the firms’ leadership and management, having been elected several times to each firms’ management committee.  I finished my years as a trial lawyer at McKool Smith, a nationally renowned litigation boutique.

I had an active trial practice for more than 35 years representing and trying cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.  Whether at a state courthouse, a federal courthouse, or in arbitration I handled about every kind of commercial litigation case you could handle, including antitrust, bankruptcy/restructuring, breach of contract, commercial torts, construction, consumer/DTPA, covenants not to compete, franchise and distribution, fraud, insurance coverage, intellectual property, legal malpractice, mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas/energy, public law, and securities.  I also had experience in personal injury cases primarily through my early years handling toxic tort cases and later through an insurance coverage practice and counseling corporate clients on general litigation issues.  I have been named many times as a Best Lawyer in America and a Texas Super Lawyer. 

After taking some time off on the heels of the COVID pandemic, I realized that I missed being around litigation.  I missed being around trial lawyers.  I missed reading a case for a purpose.  I missed assessing the strength of a claim, a defense or an argument.  While I also missed being in the courtroom, I decided to get most of these things back by doing something else at which I knew that I would excel. I opened Wiley George Mediation PLLC.
